We’re halfway to a burrito bowl! So far we’ve covered Copycat Chipotle Corn Salsa (Medium), Copycat Chipotle Cilantro Lime White Rice, Copycat Chipotle Guacamole Recipe, and now we’re going to talk about Copycat Chipotle Black Beans! To be honest, you could get a seriously delicious vegetarian bowl going just from those alone. I mean, that halfway-to-a-buritto-bowl picture does look pretty good.
It’s always a big debate in my head whether to go black or pinto, but these seem to be the most popular. The really amazing benefit about these is they don’t even take 5 minutes to make. You truly could do it in the microwave if you needed to. All you do is dump out a can of black beans, and add some magical spices. Voila!
Today, I’m reminded of my first visit to Chipotle ever. It was sometime in my sophomore year of high school, and as a true chipotle newbie, I ordered the wrong thing. Whatever it is was so spicy I could only take one bite. I don’t think I went back for months and months. Maybe even a year? But man, once I gave it another chance, and I nailed down my order my life changed. That warm tortilla…..ugh. Is it lunch time yet? The phases of my Chipotle obsession moved from burrito to tacos obsessed (weird right? who orders tacos there) and finally to burrito bowl. I just feel like you get more bang for your buck with the burrito bowl + chips for dipping. It’s easily two meals. But sadly I have not been to Chipotle since the health scares have come out, so I am eternally grateful for copycat recipes, Tostitos tortilla chips, and having enough food for a week’s worth of lunches. Amen.

Thank you! I’m glad you liked it 🙂
what size can of beans? That looks like 26-28 oz?
Hi! Actually, it was a 15 oz. standard can. I’ll update the recipe to avoid further confusion- thanks!
Does water need to be added?
Nope! I don’t drain the beans, and since they are pre cooked in the can they are good to go!
Have a great day Ally and readers 🙂
thank you so much for this recipe! I am a chipotle junkie, and now I make this at home all the time… so delicious and so easy!
[…] Black Beans :I didn’t read the recipe and drained the beans but I think I’d do it that way anyway.. haha […]
Hi Ally.
I was looking for a spicy recipe for black beans that I could use with chicken that is shredded in a mexican dish and then Top it with the beans and Mexican cheese.
Thought I would try this.
While I feel it is a good base for spicy Mexican beans I think too much Cumin, Not enough sugar and needed more kick.
I don’t know what Chipotle beans taste like as I am strictly organic so I don’t usually eat there.
Good as you have them but I kicked it up a notch.
Added Sriracha, a little Ketchup, a little more sugar and some Cayenne. Also a touch of Lime.
That made it perfect for what I am looking to make.
Thank you for a good starter recipe for these black beans.
Thanks for reaching out, Randi!! I love your ideas for jazzing them up a little. I’ll have to try that next time!
Delicious!! I rinsed the beans and added 1/2 cup chicken broth. Simmered 15 mins then, or until thickened, then added a splash of lime juice to brighten it up. Amazing!! Thank you for an awesome recipe.
I’m absolutely going to have to try that!! Sounds like a good twist. Thanks for sharing 😙
Hi there, I have a question. I was hoping to make Chipotle Black Bean dip but what makes your recipe Chipotle? You’re not using any Chipotle peppers or adobe sauce. I feel like I’m missing something. Is it only a reference to the fast food joint and not to the actual Chipotle pepper? I’m trying to cook with the actual Chipotle pepper so it’s misleading doing searches for recipes.
Correct, it’s a copy cat of the beans at the Chipotle restaurant.
Finally found a great black beans recipe! Thanks so much!
Woohoo 🙂 so glad you like!
